Getting here by bus
The University of Washington is well-served by buses. From downtown, any bus 25, 70, 71, 72, 73, or 74 will bring you to campus. From the eastside, routes 243, 271, 272, 275, and 276 also serve the UW. Detailed information, including schedules and stops, can be found on Metro King County's Metro Online page. Up to date fare information can be found on that site.
Getting here from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
There are three main options: by car, airport shuttle, or light rail + bus.
Car: From the parking areas, follow the signs for "Freeways" and "Seattle". The airport access road will merge into Highway 518 eastbound. About three-quarters of a mile later, take the exit for I-5 North. Then follow the directions in the next section.
Shuttle: We recommend that you use either a Taxi or Shuttle Express . Pick-up areas are at both the north and south ends of the terminal at ground level for Shuttle Express. To arrange for service, go to any hotel/transportation kiosk on the baggage-claim area.
Light rail + bus: You can catch a light rail train from the station at SeaTac Airport - it's located at the north end of the fourth floor parking garage (there are signs in the airport and in the garage to help you find it). Ride the train all the way to downtown Seattle's bus tunnel. At any stop in the tunnel, get off the train and wait for any of the 70, 71, 72, 73, or 74 buses. These are all express routes, which means they come directly from the tunnel to the University District without making any intermediate stops (in most cases). All these routes run along University Way, which runs one block west of campus (the campus boundary is 15th Avenue NE).
Driving from south of Seattle
Get on northbound Interstate 5 (I-5). The University of Washington is located north of downtown Seattle and the Ship Canal. Take Exit 169, marked for NE 45th and 50th Streets and the University of Washington. You will turn right (eastbound) onto 45th. Approximately one mile later, you will cross 15th Avenue NE. Take the next right, at 17th Avenue NE. This is the main entrance to the University of Washington. The gate guard will give you further directions.
If you are taking the express lanes from downtown Seattle, take the NE 42d Street exit. Turn left (north) on 7th Avenue NE. Two blocks later, turn right onto NE 45th Street and follow the directions above.
Driving From north of Seattle
Get on southbound Interstate 5. The University of Washington is located north of downtown Seattle and the Ship Canal. If you find yourself crossing a body of water, you've gone too far. Take Exit 169, marked for NE 45th and 50th Street. Turn left (east) onto NE 45th Street. Approximately one mile later, you will cross 15th Avenue NE. Take the next right, at 17th Avenue NE. This is the main entrance to the University of Washington. The gate guard will give you further directions.
Driving from the east side
Get on westbound highway 520, and cross Lake Washington. Take the Montlake exit. Turn right onto Montlake Boulevard. Continue north, crossing the Montlake Bridge. Montlake will turn into 25th Avenue NE. You will pass Husky Stadium, the Hec Edmundson Pavilion and a large parking lot. At the next stop light, turn left onto Pend Oreille Road. The gate guard will give you further directions.
